Becoming a pharmacist is not quite so easy. You have got to study eight
semesters in the subjects of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Pharmaceutical
Technology, Pharmacology and Maths.
The eight smesters are divided in two big blocks. Every block has a duration
of four semesters. In block one you get to know the basic things in Chemistry,
Physics etc. After this first block there is a "first state exam". In
a "state exam" in Germany the government wants to know what you´ve
learned so far and is therefor asking many questions...
In the second block things are getting more and more detailed (the subjects stay
the same). Then, after a total time of eight semesters you have to pass your
second state exam.
So far, so good. Now, you have to practice in a public pharmacy for one year.
(You can divide that in practicing half a year in a public pharmacy (that´s a
must) and the other six months you can decide to practice in the pharmaceutical
industry or in a hospital´s pharmacy or even go abroad). After having practiced
that much you must pass the third state exam before becoming a pharmacist.
As a pharmacist you have many possibilities to get a job. You can work in a
public pharmacy, go to hospital, work for the government (as an inspector of
pharmaceutical things), for the army or get a job in the industry, teach at
Universities and High Schools...
